EIDOS

The third year of collaboration with the Polish Dance Theatre brings together two years of exploration into ancient Greek mythology and philosophy. While inspired by Greek themes, the project expands into other cultures and theories, creating an organic framework for this final piece.

EIDOS completes the trilogy of Klepsydra, Temenos, and Eidos, uniting concepts of time, space, and form. In line with the Polish Dance Theatre’s artistic vision, we delve into “Forma” — as frame, shape, and essence — blending abstract and tangible meanings.

In Klepsydra, five artists choreographed sections of the work while performing in each other’s pieces, reflecting different perceptions of Time: chronological, musical tempo, Kairos (the opportune moment), and synchronicity. These layers intertwine with the figure of Ananke, the Greek goddess of necessity, who embodies time’s inevitability alongside Chronos.

The ancient Greeks sought universal archetypes — ideas still relevant today as new generations reinterpret them with fresh perspectives. Eidos aims to embody these timeless forms, using bodies as bridges between space and existence, blending geometry with the essence of being.

The audience will journey through the Polish Dance Theatre’s headquarters, discovering its unique spaces (Temenos) that evolve into sacred, ritualistic places. This path leads to the heart of the building — the stage (Klepsydra) — where time flows differently, shaped by rhythm and movement.

Music, composed by Piotr Saniszewski with contributions from various artists, will be central to shaping the performance’s evolving atmosphere. Directed by Anna Hop and Federico Zeno Bassanese, the creation emphasizes a shared process of knowledge and experience, fostering a collaborative and site-specific approach.

The title Eidos ties together past projects and the profound meaning of the Greek word, offering a dual experience: a journey through space with the artists and a reimagined theatre performance. In the end, it raises the question — do we belong to forms, or do forms belong to us?
